New Cartridge Book and Reloading Courses
26 Apr 2018

Latest News

Pierre van der Walt, the well-known expert on popular African hunting cartridges, has just completed his second book in a planned series of four books on popular African hunting cartridges.

African Medium Game Cartridges deals in infinite detail with 39 Africa-popular cartridges within the .270, 7mm, .30 and .303 calibre spectrum and is now available. Like its predecessor (African Dangerous Game Cartridges) it is a large format, hard cover, coffee table quality book that comprises 496 pages with 380 full colour pictures.

The new book offers data for 7300 reloads and includes the most extensive Somchem propellant load data ever published on the cartridges covered. The book can be ordered for R950 plus postage directly from Pierre.

The popular reloading courses that Pierre has been hosting over the past two years are also set to continue during 2018.

Pierre's previous reloading courses have provided valuable introductory aspects to those interested in understanding the basics of reloading.

The original introductory course covered the following aspects:
- Firearm as a Ballistic Platform
- The Ballistic Cycle
- Propellant Basics
- Primer Basics
- Bullet Considerations
- Case Considerations
- Presses
- Scales
- Dies
- Case Cleaning
- Trimmers
- Chronographs
- Annealing
- Useful Tools
- Case Resizing and Die Setup
- Priming process
- Propellant Charging
- Bullet Seating
- Load Development
- Chronographs
- General Tips

Reloading requires a tremendous amount of research and development to ensure that safe and effective ammunition is produced. Reloading that is done correctly with the right components can produce ammunition that is far superior to off-the-shelf ammunition. Pierre's courses will help anyone interested in learning more about the art of reloading.

Pierre can be contacted at adventure@aimshow.co.za to order his new book and also to get information on upcoming reloading courses.
