Troy Pump-Action AR Rifle
24 May 2018

Latest News

Troy Industries is a premium brand with a reputation initially built on being one of America’s largest suppliers of OEM small arms accessories, and subsequently as a manufacturer of superior firearms mainly based on the AR platform. Troy services not only the civilian market but also has a wide ranging customer base of military and law enforcement personnel.

A gap in the market identified by Troy has been the demand in certain markets for a pump-action version of the venerable AR rifle platform. Where restrictions on self-loading rifles apply, a pump-action rifle can provide a solution to customers who require key features of the AR rifle in a package that is compliant with prevailing laws.

In South Africa the application for an AR-platform rifle is largely confined to sport shooting, in contrast the AR is considered a suitable platform in the United States for multiple applications ranging from sport shooting and hunting right through to home defense. From a hunting perspective, the AR design has a proven reputation as a useful rifle but legislative hurdles have prevented it from becoming a common hunting platform in South Africa. Stringent local licensing requirements have limited the use of self-loading rifles mainly to the dedicated sport shooting segment of firearms owners.

Shooters who want to enjoy the AR platform’s attractive modularity but don’t want the administrative headache of licensing a self-loading rifle may find the Troy range of pump-action rifles to be exactly what they have been looking for. The Troy pump-action rifle takes the ergonomics and versatility of the AR sporting rifle and deploys them in a new, manually operated, integrated pump action for multiple applications.

Accuracy testing has shown that the rifle is capable of sub-MOA performance, so the Troy pump-action rifle’s ability deliver shots where they are aimed is proven. Whilst the pump-action functionality requires that the forearm bottom and sides are smooth the system still features a full length picatinny rail on top which offers the ability to mount a range of different optics and attachments.

From a South African perspective the Troy pump-action rifle would make for a very handy bakkie rifle, since the barrel measures 16 inches and is therefore a relatively compact package. At around 2,7 kilograms for the .223 Remington version it is also a lightweight rifle that won’t be a hassle to carry around. The rifle lends itself to a small-game hunting, varminting and even home defense application since it is both accurate and allows for fast shooting through rapid manual reloading.
Nicholas Yale is the South African distributor of Troy Industries products and supply the Troy Pump Action Rifle Optic Ready model to dealerships nationally.
The different models available are:

- .223 Remington – Recommended retail price of R24,452
